Prolific and experimental electronic artist, Ben Fleury-Steiner, has created with sound since the early 90s. He constructs the sound sources for his various projects using electric guitar, hardware effects, ebow, samples, field recordings, found sounds, and various software applications all processed via PC. A tireless sonic explorer, Fleury-Steiner has released numerous works under his own name and the alias paradin on his Gears of Sand label, Dissonance (Maryland, U.S.A.), Mystery Sea (Belgium), Umbra (Italy), and the Taâlem (France) labels. As eneg, Fleury-Steiner creates a very improvisational, glitch-centric sound that takes its cues from some of his favorite experimental artists, including Cabaret Voltaire, Kim Cascone, Phonem, Tetsu Inoue, and Oval. Eneg’s main objective is to create a very amorphous microsound that embodies both ambient, IDM, and, to a lesser extent, break beat aesthetics. eneg has released works on White Label Music (U.K.) and Dharmasound (Italy). Based in North Wilmington, Delaware, Fleury-Steiner performs regularly at the Philadelphia Gate series, the annual Philadelphia Electro-Music Festival, and as part of the Ambient PiNG series (Toronto, Canada).
